Family of Victim Criticizes Lack of Remorse After Conviction in High-Profile Stabbing Case

1 hour ago 0

Austin Metcalf’s father has expressed his dismay over the absence of communication and remorse from the family of Karmelo Anthony, following his son’s fatal stabbing. Anthony, 19, received a 35-year prison sentence after being convicted of murder for stabbing Metcalf at a track meet in Frisco, Texas, when both were 17.

The case garnered national attention, with social media accentuating racial aspects, as Anthony is Black and Metcalf was white. None of the jurors in Anthony’s trial were Black, although some were people of color. Critics, including Texas Representative Jasmine Crockett, argued that racial factors and the trial’s location influenced the verdict, suggesting different outcomes if Anthony were white.

Jeff Metcalf, Austin Metcalf’s father, criticized the racial framing of his son’s killing during an interview on The Will Cain Show on Fox News. “The two things I said on one of the first interviews I ever did were, ‘Please don’t make this about race, please don’t politicize it,’” he stated. “But they chose to do both.” He also asserted he has never spoken to Anthony’s family.

“I was actually hoping to show them, I know what happened was terrible. And your son made a horrible mistake. I was hoping for some accountability maybe and some remorse. Neither one was shown.”

When asked by Cain if he had ever spoken to the Anthonys, Metcalf replied, “No,” and confirmed no apology or remorse had been received. He also mentioned that Anthony’s family and advocates left the courtroom after the verdict, absent during the sentencing and victim impact statements.

“They weren’t there for the sentencing and they were not there for victim impact statements. They left that poor child up there by himself.”
