High School Baseball Standouts Earn Honors

Five players each from Naperville Central and Naperville North, state semifinalists in Class 4A, and four players each from Benet and Waubonsie Valley have been recognized for their performances.

First Team Selections

Andrew Barkley, Neuqua Valley, Senior, Outfielder: Barkley impressed with a .348 batting average, including eight doubles, two triples, and a home run. He drove in 21 runs and scored 31 times, maintaining a flawless fielding percentage across 68 chances, earning all-conference honors.

Gio Calandriello, Benet, Senior, Pitcher: Returning after Tommy John surgery, Calandriello posted a 5-2 record, a 2.71 ERA, and one save. He recorded 45 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings, achieving all-conference status. He has committed to Loras College.

Lawton Close, Naperville North, Sophomore, Pitcher/Third Baseman: Close achieved a 3-2 record with a save, a 2.56 ERA, and 46 strikeouts in 46 innings. Offensively, he batted .309 with 11 doubles, three home runs, and 22 RBIs. He also stole five bases, earning the title of conference pitcher of the year.

Scott Gillen, Waubonsie Valley, Junior, Second Baseman: Gillen batted .353 with 11 doubles, 22 RBIs, and 38 runs scored. He also stole 22 bases, earning all-conference recognition.

Tyler Gluting, Metea Valley, Junior, Outfielder: Gluting delivered a .432 batting average, 14 doubles, eight home runs, and 25 RBIs. He scored 35 runs and stole eight bases, securing all-conference and Class 4A all-state honors. He has committed to Oklahoma.

Cooper Page, Naperville Central, Senior, Shortstop: Page batted .314 with nine doubles and a home run. He drove in 18 runs and crossed the plate 36 times, receiving all-conference accolades.

Michael Page, Naperville Central, Senior, Outfielder: Page achieved a .385 average, including 14 doubles, four triples, and three home runs. He recorded 26 RBIs, 28 runs scored, and eight stolen bases. He is committed to North Central College.

Quinn Rooney, Benet, Junior, First Baseman: Rooney batted .385 with five doubles, five triples, and four home runs. He drove in 31 runs and stole eight bases, earning all-conference honors. Rooney committed to Notre Dame.

Max Steele, Naperville North, Senior, Pitcher/Outfielder: Steele posted a 4-3 record with 47 strikeouts over 37 2/3 innings. Offensively, Steele batted .375 with 12 doubles and 25 RBIs. He is committed to Benedictine University.

Waubonsie Valley’s Shane Torres returned to home plate during a nonconference game against Batavia in Aurora on April 9, 2026.

Shane Torres, Waubonsie Valley, Junior, Catcher: Torres batted .471 with 11 doubles and two triples while driving in 35 runs. He earned the conference player of the year title, having committed to Oakland.

Grant Umbright, Naperville Central, Senior, Pitcher/Third Baseman: Umbright achieved a 9-1 record with a 2.03 ERA, recording 71 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings. He also batted .324 with four home runs and 30 RBIs. Umbright will attend John A. Logan College.
