Giannis Antetokounmpo is relocating following a major trade late on Monday night. Various sources reported the deal, which transfers Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat. The Bucks receive Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, along with three first-round picks, one pick swap, and a second-rounder, as detailed by ESPN.
Prior to the trade’s announcement, Antetokounmpo expressed a profound statement on X at 5:56 p.m. on Monday, saying, “GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout.” His message indicates anticipation of the trade, ready to embark on the next chapter of his career.
Antetokounmpo played a pivotal role in securing Milwaukee’s second NBA Finals victory in franchise history back in 2021. However, rising tensions between him and the Bucks seemed to have prompted his move to Miami.
The 13-year NBA veteran boasts two MVP awards, alongside a Defensive Player of the Year accolade. His accomplishments include consistent placement in the All-NBA first team over the past seven seasons. Before the trade, his 2025-26 season averaged 27.6 points per game, though he exceeded 30.4 points per game in the three preceding seasons.
Joining forces with Heat star Bam Adebayo and guard Norman Powell could reconstruct Miami’s leading trio, contingent on Powell’s re-signing during free agency. Adebayo previously averaged 20.1 points per game, highlighted by a staggering 83-point performance against the Bucks on March 11. Meanwhile, Powell, an impending unrestricted free agent, led with 21.7 points per game, as the Heat recorded a 43-39 season, missing the playoffs.
The Bucks’ recent season ended poorly at 32-50, hindered by Antetokounmpo’s participation in a mere 36 games, marking his career’s lowest. He averaged 28.9 minutes per game, paralleling rookie season records.
Antetokounmpo’s move to Miami aims to revive his winning trajectory and capture championship glory, reminiscent of Miami’s title in 2013.
