Venezuela’s capital, Caracas, faced destruction as two powerful earthquakes shook the region. Emergency workers are actively rescuing victims from the rubble of collapsed buildings. The back-to-back tremors have caused significant devastation.

Venezuela’s Acting President, Delcy Rodríguez, expressed gratitude toward President Donald Trump and the U.S. government for their support and solidarity. In a Facebook post, Rodríguez highlighted the continuous communication with U.S. authorities, emphasizing the aid extended in these trying times.

President Trump reinforced his commitment to Venezuela through a post on Truth Social, assuring rapid support and assistance. He stated that U.S. agencies are prepared to respond swiftly to aid the Venezuelan people, acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

Casualties and Damage Assessment

Official reports from Acting President Rodríguez reveal that at least 32 individuals have lost their lives, and over 700 are injured due to the earthquakes. These numbers are expected to rise, with La Guaira state described as a ‘disaster zone’ following the catastrophic events.

Details of the Earthquakes

Both earthquakes struck Venezuela around 6 p.m. ET. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the first quake, measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale, had its epicenter near San Felipe, approximately 100 miles west of Caracas. It was succeeded by a second, more powerful earthquake of 7.5 magnitude near Yumare, just 39 seconds later.
