Tom Homan, the White House border czar, has expressed his disapproval of anti-ICE activists in Minneapolis who have established roadblocks and checkpoints. He dismissed their efforts as a ‘joke,’ emphasizing that these actions are only detrimental to the local community.
During a press conference in Minnesota, Homan mentioned that local law enforcement was in the process of dismantling the checkpoints. When I was informed about the roadblocks, I immediately contacted the chief of police, who assured me that they would be dismantled,
Homan stated. He insisted, This is illegal. You can’t do that. My message to them is simple: You really think you’re stopping ICE and CBP from doing their job? It’s a joke. The only ones you’re affecting are your own neighbors who just want to go about their daily lives.
Homan’s comments came shortly after he announced a reduction of the federal presence in the Twin Cities. He revealed that 700 federal agents would be withdrawn from the area, marking a significant drawdown. Homan underscored the importance of cooperation between local and federal authorities.
In meetings with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, Homan stressed the need for local jails to notify federal law enforcement when illegal immigrants are about to be released. He mentioned, We now have an unprecedented level of communication with local authorities, allowing ICE to take custody of illegal aliens before they are released into the community. This cooperation is unprecedented.
Homan added, This efficient approach requires only a few officers to take custody of criminal aliens, rather than sending a larger contingent into the community.
Furthermore, he clarified that federal authorities are not demanding that local jails hold immigrants beyond their scheduled release times.
Governor Walz expressed his support for the federal drawdown but stressed the need for additional actions. He remarked that the announcement was a positive step, yet highlighted the necessity for further investigations into certain local incidents and a continued reduction in federal forces in the area.
