Thailand has announced a new policy that will reduce the duration of visa-free stays for tourists from several countries, including the United States. The change will limit stays to 30 days without a visa, down from the previous 60 days. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Thailand stated that this change would apply to tourists from 54 countries.
Since 2024, Thailand has allowed longer visa-free stays to boost tourism after the pandemic. However, concerns about foreigners conducting unauthorized businesses and criminal activities have prompted this policy adjustment. Visitors from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, and Singapore, among others, will be affected.
The new regulation will take effect 15 days after being published in The Royal Gazette, Thailand’s official public journal, though the exact publication date remains unspecified. Tourists already in Thailand under current visa conditions can stay until their permitted period expires.
For citizens of countries not eligible for the new 30-day program, rules will vary. Some may have a 15-day visa exemption, while others can receive visas on arrival. Those needing a visa can apply through Thailand’s online portal.
