2 weeks ago 0

Explosions at the May Ship Repair Contracting Corporation on Staten Island have resulted in one fatality and injuries to dozens more. The incidents occurred following a fire on a dock, which was under construction at the time.

According to company representative Nadia Adam, the incident has taken a grave toll. The individual who lost his life was a subcontractor, known to have collaborated with the company on numerous projects. He is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter.

Ms. Adam, who serves as the executive vice president of May Ship Repair, expressed her grief and shocked at the tragedy. She mentioned that the dock had been under construction for nine months without any prior issues. The shipyard is a small, family-run business with less than 50 employees, focusing on local hiring.

Both the Fire Department and the Police Department are conducting investigations, with the company actively cooperating. Ms. Adam emphasized the company’s commitment to understanding the incident. Safety remains a top priority, she noted.

The explosions occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Ms. Adam reported being in her office when the news of the explosion reached her. The company promptly contacted emergency services and adhered to its safety procedures.
