U.S. Investigation into Alleged Cuban Influence Operations

2 weeks ago 0

The U.S. Treasury Department is investigating Marxist streamer Hasan Piker for potentially violating laws related to business dealings with Cuba’s communist regime. This investigation is part of a broader federal inquiry into a possible Cuban influence operation on U.S. soil. The focus includes a senior diplomat allegedly coordinating these efforts.

The operation forms part of a global network promoting pro-Cuba campaigns, which facilitated Piker’s March visit to Cuba through the Nuestra América Convoy. Piker mentioned a contact at the Cuban embassy offered him consistent internet access if he visited Cuba, though he did not name the contact.

The Justice, State, and Treasury departments are conducting the probe. Fox News Digital’s investigation led them to Machinists Hall in Wilmington, California. On May 9, a group of pro-communism activists gathered there, surrounded by symbols of support for Cuba and communist leaders.

‘U.S. HANDS OFF CUBA! Remove Cuba from state sponsors of terrorism list! END THE BLOCKADE, TRADE, TRAVEL BANS & SANCTIONS!’

The meeting featured guest speaker David Ramírez Álvarez, second secretary at the Cuban Embassy, who allegedly plays a role in coordinating Cuban influence efforts within the U.S. Meanwhile, the Cuban Embassy denies any misconduct, citing compliance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which prohibits diplomats from interfering in the host country’s internal affairs.

Fox News Digital’s findings suggest the U.S. Hands Off Cuba Committee is part of a vast pro-communist network encompassing 145 organizations, with $1 billion in combined yearly incomes. Prominent groups include CodePink, the People’s Forum, and the Democratic Socialists of America, among others. These groups are financially supported by Neville Roy Singham, an American living in Shanghai and aligned with both China and Cuba’s communist parties.

The investigation examines if Cuban officials like Ramírez Álvarez have forged alliances between U.S.-based activists and Cuba’s Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP). Founded by Fidel Castro in 1960, ICAP handled foreign solidarity campaigns, acting as an entry for revolutionaries worldwide to ally with Cuba’s communist goals.

Among those present at the May gathering were representatives from labor unions and organizations like Jewish Voice for Peace and the National Lawyers Guild. Notably, U.S. activists and nonprofits have been instructed not to list Cuba in donation descriptions but use labels like ‘Urgent Aid.’ This raises questions related to the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which requires registration for those involved in foreign political activities.

The NSPM-7, a National Security Presidential Memorandum issued under President Trump in September 2025, sets the framework for these investigations. It calls for actions against political violence, with departments examining foreign state influence on U.S. soil.

In conclusion, the investigation seeks to uncover coordination among activists and Cuban officials. Future legal scrutiny may be on whether activities require registration under U.S. law. The ongoing activities and interactions between U.S. activists and Cuba remain a point of deep interest for federal investigators.
