Body camera footage shows the dramatic rescue of a baby trapped in a vehicle stranded in floodwaters in Beeville, Texas. Heavy storms hit the region on Saturday, turning roads hazardous as rain fell rapidly.
Officials say the incident happened about 100 miles southeast of San Antonio. A sudden downpour overwhelmed a low-water crossing, trapping a vehicle as it entered. The Beeville Police Department shared on Facebook that officers and firefighters responded when the car got caught by rushing water.
Recently, officers and firefighters responded after a vehicle drove into a flooded creek crossing and began getting pushed by the rushing water,the post stated.
A video from May 23, 2026, shows a white sedan being pushed by floodwaters at a crossing in Beeville. Officials noted that conditions changed rapidly, leaving no time for barricades before the vehicle arrived. A fire chief attempted to flag down the driver but was not seen in time.
Footage reveals the car stranded as water levels rose swiftly, reaching the top of its wheels. An officer notes in the video how the surging water began pushing the car toward a creek.
The driver, in panic, informed a nearby officer about a baby inside the vehicle. The officer ran through floodwaters, opened the car door, and rescued the infant carrier.
After the rescue, crews shielded the baby with a jacket from continuing rain. Both the baby and the driver were safely rescued without harm.
The Beeville Police Department used the video to stress floodwater dangers. They warned that conditions can change from passable to dangerous rapidly.
What may look passable one minute can quickly become dangerous the next,the department warned.
The police emphasized the risks of driving through flooded areas and bypassing barricades, stating it endangers lives and is a criminal offense.
Drivers are advised to slow down during heavy rain and avoid low-lying roads and creek crossings. Safety should always take priority, the police department concluded.
