Taya Kyle Responds to Criticism
Taya Kyle, widow of U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, addressed comments made by Maine Senate candidate Graham Platner on ‘The Sunday Briefing.’ Kyle condemned Platner’s remarks, describing them as ‘cowardly’ and a ‘cheap political trick’ aimed at harming Gold Star families. She emphasized the great sacrifices of military members and advocated for support of military marriages.
Comments Draw Backlash
Platner’s comments insinuated that Chris Kyle exaggerated his kill count by targeting civilians. Taya Kyle critiqued these statements, pointing out the lack of respect for a deceased national hero. She accused Platner of lying to gain attention and described his tactics as inappropriate.
Platner, a Democratic Senate candidate, faces incumbent Republican Senator Susan Collins. His remarks originally appeared on an episode of the ‘Green Beret Chronicle Show.’ In the podcast, Platner claimed that inflated kill numbers were possible with less discriminating fire.
Controversial Social Media History
Platner’s past Reddit posts recently surfaced, including one where he disparaged a soldier wounded in a Taliban encounter. This post drew criticism from Robert O’Neill, a Navy SEAL known for his role in Osama bin Laden’s death. O’Neill condemned Platner’s comments, calling them ‘way out of line.’
Platner has attributed his inflammatory posts to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Nonetheless, O’Neill rejected PTSD as a justification for what he termed ‘vile hatred.’
