Anthropic Surpasses OpenAI in A.I. Valuation

Anthropic, once considered a secondary player in the artificial intelligence field compared to OpenAI, has seen a remarkable surge in its status recently. The San Francisco-based company has been actively expanding its influence in the A.I. domain.

Recently, Anthropic engaged in discussions with the Pentagon regarding the use of A.I. technology in military operations. Its newly launched A.I. model, Mythos, has demonstrated exceptional capability in identifying and exploiting hidden vulnerabilities within software systems. Furthermore, Anthropic played a role in advising Pope Leo XIV on a papal encyclical delivered on Monday, stressing the importance of protecting humanity from the disruptive impacts of A.I.

On Thursday, Anthropic marked a significant milestone by surpassing OpenAI as the most valuable A.I. start-up globally. The company announced that it had secured $65 billion in new funding, raising its valuation to $900 billion. This new valuation surpasses OpenAI’s last known valuation of $730 billion. Alongside this achievement, Anthropic unveiled its new advanced A.I. model, Claude Opus 4.8, which greatly enhances its ability to generate computer code from plain English prompts.

The recent funding, involving investors such as Greenoaks Capital, Sequoia Capital, Altimeter Capital, and Dragoneer Investment Group, has significantly increased Anthropic’s worth, nearly doubling its previous valuation of $380 billion three months ago. This financial support highlights Anthropic’s progress in developing A.I. that excels in writing software code, turning into a lucrative venture. Since enhancing its A.I. coding technology last November, the company has attracted hundreds of businesses willing to invest in its software services. Anthropic revealed that its annual ‘revenue run rate’ now exceeds $47 billion based on current performance indicators.

Krishna Rao, Anthropic’s Chief Financial Officer, stated, “This funding will allow us to meet the extraordinary demand we are witnessing, maintain our lead in research innovation, and expand the reach of Claude to more workplaces.”
