CNN host Jake Tapper, who co-moderated the 2024 debate where then-President Joe Biden’s performance drew controversy, shared insights on a recent video post. He noted that Jill Biden, the former first lady, showed no sign of concern about her husband during their post-debate interaction. Jill Biden later expressed in an interview that she feared her husband might have suffered a stroke during the debate, a claim that has sparked debate among political circles.
Tapper stated, “I should also disclose that I was one of the two moderators at the debate, and after it, she and the president walked over to the table and they didn’t act as if anything significant had just happened at all. They made polite chitchat. She certainly didn’t act like somebody who was worried that her husband had just had a stroke,” in a post on his Instagram. The debate took place in June 2024, with Tapper co-moderating alongside CNN’s Dana Bash.
Jill Biden recently opened up about her fears for her husband’s health during an interview with CBS. She recounted, “I don’t know what happened. I mean, when I watched it, I thought, ‘Oh my God, he’s having a stroke,’ and it scared me to death.” Despite these feelings expressed later, on the night of the debate, the Bidens attended a local Waffle House, and Jill Biden appeared calm and supportive at the event’s after-party.
CNN host Abby Phillip has criticized the Democratic Party following Jill Biden’s revelations. Phillip said, “I appreciate that we now get to see at least some version of a truth that she’s putting out there, because I think, yeah, the conversation should be had about the deceptiveness that was behind this.” She questioned the political system’s role in covering up such incidents and the implications for public trust.
Adding further context, Tapper has co-authored a book titled “Original Sin,” which examines the Biden administration’s handling of the president’s mental and cognitive issues. This issue eventually led to Biden being replaced on the Democratic ticket by Kamala Harris in 2024.
