Duolingo is about to please many language learners with a much-anticipated update. Starting Monday, June 1, users who had a streak of 30 days or more can regain it by completing three lessons in one sitting, as stated in a news release. Consistent usage of Duolingo for consecutive days builds streaks, which were previously lost if a day was skipped.
According to Duome.eu’s unofficial Duolingo Streak Hall of Fame, the longest current streak is 4,890 days, held by a user in Bethlehem. Duolingo began in 2011, and this impressive streak spans nearly the platform’s entire history. Across over 80 countries, recovering lost streaks stood as the most requested feature from users. Introducing it was fitting for Duolingo’s 15th anniversary, noted Chief Product Officer Cem Kansu.
Reviving Duolingo Streaks
Eligible users will see the option to revive an old streak in the Duolingo mobile app. This feature will be available from June 1 to June 30.
Additional Updates from Duolingo
Beyond streak recovery, Duolingo is unveiling other updates starting June 1:
- Expanded Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) content in nine languages.
- New, free features including Speaking Adventures with real-life scenarios, vocabulary flashcards, Explain my Answer for understanding mistakes, and a practice hub for revisiting past lessons.
- Duolingo Score to measure progress with a standards-aligned curriculum.
- Introduction of chess and math courses.
