The Los Angeles Police Department announced the arrest of Michael Gledhill, 44, in connection with the death of actor James Handy. Gledhill is the son of Handy’s girlfriend.
Authorities responded to a radio call reporting “unknown trouble” in Tarzana, Los Angeles, at the 19200 block of Erwin Street around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday. A 911 call had been received, in which the caller stated, “I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin.”
Upon arrival, officers found Handy, 81, unconscious in the front yard with a stab wound to his chest. He was promptly taken to a hospital where he was later declared dead.
Gledhill approached the officers upon their arrival, admitting that he “was the one they were looking for.” Following his admission, police arrested him and transported him to Van Nuys Jail. His bail is set at $2 million. Gledhill resides at the location with his mother.
James Handy was recognized for his roles in films such as Arachnophobia, Jumanji, and Top Gun: Maverick.
The incident remains under investigation.
