Bert Kreischer’s Health Scare and Life-Changing Insights

1 day ago 0

In January, Bert Kreischer experienced a serious health issue that may have saved his life. The 53-year-old comedian, known for his ‘Free Bert’ show, visited the emergency room due to severe pain in his leg. Doctors discovered a significant blood clot behind his knee, along with additional clots in his lungs. As a result, he was put on blood thinners and advised to stop drinking alcohol during his recovery.

During a tour in March 2026, Kreischer’s bus suffered a severe tire blowout between North Dakota and Iowa. On the following morning, the bus caught fire and was destroyed. Fortunately, the driver escaped unharmed.

In an interview, Kreischer recalled a subsequent conversation with the bus driver, realizing how his health scare had indirectly saved him. ‘Old-school Bertie boy would have been drinking,’ the driver noted, implying that if Kreischer had been on the bus and unconscious, he might not have survived. This conversation profoundly affected Kreischer.

Reflecting on the incident, Kreischer developed a greater appreciation for life’s unpredictable nature. He expressed how awareness of luck and chance has impacted his perspective.

Kreischer compared this change in mindset to Seth MacFarlane missing a flight on the first plane hijacked during the September 11 attacks, sharing how MacFarlane frequently missed flights, underscoring how random twists of fate play significant roles in life.

Kreischer’s health scare led him to a weight loss journey. Motivated by a doctor’s advice and his family’s encouragement, he began addressing his unhealthy weight. His daughter Ila had commented on his physique during the show’s first season, prompting Kreischer to take action.

A full-body scan revealed a body fat percentage of 40%. Kreischer began taking tirzepatide, aiming to lose visceral fat and shed weight. He admitted the blood clot made him confront his mortality and realize he isn’t indestructible.

The comedian, recognized for his on-stage ‘Machine’ persona and hard-partying lifestyle, faced a new sober reality brought on by blood thinners. He acknowledged how sobriety forced him to understand and manage his emotions.

Kreischer also discussed his evolving life, emphasizing progress since his early days as a father in Los Angeles. He mentioned his gratitude for the opportunities and the show’s renewal for a second season.

Fans can expect more fun from the second season of ‘Free Bert,’ as Kreischer ensures the show maintains its entertaining charm while incorporating elements that audiences enjoy.
