Dallas Cowboys’ Concerns Over George Pickens’ Commitment

2 weeks ago 0

The Dallas Cowboys are navigating uncertainties with star wide receiver George Pickens, despite securing his signature on a one-year franchise tag tender. The main question revolves around his attendance at the upcoming mandatory minicamp, especially after his absence at the team’s Organized Team Activities (OTAs).

Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer and wide receiver CeeDee Lamb express confidence that Pickens will attend the mandatory sessions. However, doubts persist due to his history of challenging authority during his time with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mike Florio from Pro Football Talk commented, “Pickens embracing the one-year deal aims to prove his three-year stint in Pittsburgh was not indicative of his potential. Last year in Dallas showcased his true abilities. If that’s the case, attending the mandatory minicamp is crucial. Skipping it, especially after signing the tender, might raise concerns about his intentions. Failing to show, despite risking $100,000 in fines, would be puzzling given the option to delay signing until post-minicamp.”

This situation poses a significant question for the Cowboys. The way Pickens handles his attendance may reveal his current mindset. Is he prepared to address concerns and secure a future big contract? Or do lingering uncertainties remain, potentially impacting future lucrative offers?

Until Pickens attends the minicamp, worries about a holdout or attempts to force a trade persist. Nonetheless, sources within the team emphasize that Dallas intends to retain Pickens. They report that Pickens is focused on playing through the 2026 season, with hopes of earning a substantial contract extension the following year.
