Florida Beach Baptism Event
In Jacksonville, Florida, over 2,500 people participated in a large-scale baptism event along the beach. The event was organized by Pastor Joby Martin of The Church of Eleven22. He underscored the significance of public displays of faith and the spiritual renewal that such gatherings can inspire.
UK Pastor Faces Arrest and Investigation
In the United Kingdom, Pastor Dia Moodley has been cleared of wrongdoing following a criminal investigation that lasted for months. The investigation was linked to a street sermon he gave in Bristol in November. Supporters argue the investigations highlight increasing limitations on Christian free speech in the UK.
Pastor Dia Moodley frequently faces challenges while preaching in public spaces in the UK.
Moodley, aged 58, was arrested on suspicion of committing a “religiously aggravated” offense under the Public Order Act. This followed his comments on Islam and transgender ideology. Police detained Moodley for eight hours before releasing him on bail. On May 16, authorities notified him that the case was being dropped. Avon and Somerset Police explained they lacked strong enough evidence for a realistic chance of conviction.
Past Arrests and Public Threats
This incident marked the second time Moodley was arrested under similar circumstances. In March 2024, a similar situation occurred but the police later apologized and ended the investigation. Moodley asserts these repeated legal actions symbolize growing curtailments on free speech.
During an Easter sermon on April 4, Moodley experienced threats from bystanders while comparing religious figures to Jesus. A Muslim bystander warned Moodley against making certain statements again. The pastor reported this to the police, who found insufficient evidence for further action.
During these legal battles, Moodley seeks advice on possible legal actions against the police, citing breaches of free speech rights and the lack of comprehensive investigation into threats against him.
Similar cases include Pastor Steve Maile’s arrest in England for preaching against Islam, and Clive Johnston’s conviction in Northern Ireland for delivering a sermon in a restricted “buffer zone.”
