A Mexican man accused of killing his wife on their wedding night over a decade ago has been extradited to the United States. Arnoldo Jimenez, who had been in hiding, was captured in Mexico and has now returned to face charges in Illinois, according to the FBI.

Jimenez’s arrest occurred more than a year ago on January 30, 2025, in Monterrey, Mexico. This was a collaborative effort between U.S. law enforcement and Mexican authorities. At the time of his capture, Jimenez was on the FBI’s Most Wanted list as the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the country.

The FBI released a statement on Thursday highlighting the significance of Jimenez’s return. “This marks a pivotal moment for our team — securing the return of Arnoldo Jimenez, a fugitive on our Most Wanted list, underscores our relentless pursuit of justice,” the FBI noted.

Jimenez stands accused of murdering his wife, Estrella Carrera, 26, on their wedding night in 2012. Authorities discovered her body in the bathtub of her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, just two days after their marriage on May 13, 2012.

Charged with first-degree murder, Jimenez had an arrest warrant issued by the state on May 15, 2012. A federal warrant followed soon after as he was also charged with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

While authorities have not released a motive for the crime, Jimenez’s return to the U.S. marks the beginning of his legal proceedings. Details regarding his court appearances remain forthcoming.
