Earlier this month, a high-speed chase in Wisconsin captured dramatic footage as the fleeing driver went airborne, jumping their car over another vehicle. This moment is reminiscent of scenes from TV shows where cars perform daring stunts. The event, captured on a dashcam, quickly went viral when released by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
On the morning of May 9, the Wisconsin State Patrol stopped a vehicle due to an active felony warrant and requested backup. When a Fond du Lac County sheriff’s deputy and another trooper arrived, the driver attempted to escape.
A high-speed pursuit ensued, concluding when the driver lost control, went into a ditch, and launched up an embankment. In a striking turn, the driver’s car soared over another vehicle, crossing the road and landing in a field beyond.
This driver, identified as 44-year-old Dewayne Stokes, was not initially ready to surrender. After exiting the vehicle, authorities had to use a Taser to subdue him before taking him into custody. The chase covered four and a half miles, with a brief airborne segment. Stokes sustained minor injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Charges against Stokes include seven counts, such as first-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of eluding an officer. His cash bond is set at $25,000, and he is required to appear in court again on June 24. At the time of the incident, Stokes was out on bond for previously operating a vehicle without the owner’s consent, which also included a warrant for missing a court date.
