Honda is undertaking a recall of more than 800,000 vehicles. This action stems from concerns that rear suspension components might fail, posing a risk of drivers losing control. Such a failure could heighten the potential for crashes or injuries.
Affected Models and Numbers
The recall encompasses specific models: 2016-2022 Honda Pilot, 2017-2023 Ridgeline, 2019-2023 Passport, and 2014-2020 Acura MDX. Overall, 880,514 vehicles sold in various states and regions are included. These areas include Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Reason for Recall
The issue is linked to the rear subframe, susceptible to corrosion at suspension mounting points, potentially causing suspension failure. Honda has estimated the defect affects only 1% of the recalled vehicles.
Resolution and Safety Standings
To date, Honda reported no warranty claims, injuries, or deaths related to this defect. Honda and Acura dealerships will inspect and, if necessary, either install a reinforcement kit or repair or replace the rear subframe components free of charge for owners.
Owner Notifications
Owner notification letters are anticipated to be mailed by July 7. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) related to this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov starting June 10. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has assigned this campaign the number 26V367000. Honda’s reference numbers for the recall are AOU and AOT.
