An ICE officer made a quick decision to jump into a Florida pool when he saw a child struggling, performing an act of heroism amidst criticism and protests faced by the agency. Gregory Simmonds, while at a community pool in Pasco County on Florida’s Gulf Coast, noticed a young child floating unconscious.
Closed-circuit footage captured the moment Simmonds, without hesitation, jumped fully clothed into the pool to save the child. He swiftly brought the child to the pool’s edge, where they were resuscitated on dry land.
HERO OFFICERS AND GOOD SAMARITANS WHO WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND IN 2024
Simmonds, part of ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations office in Tampa, administered CPR until the child regained consciousness. Law enforcement officials reported that the child is expected to make a full recovery.
Acting Assistant DHS Secretary Lauren Bis stated, “This officer swiftly sprang to action and delivered life-saving medical care to this 6-year-old who drowned.” She praised the dedication of ICE agents who risk their lives to protect communities, urging gratitude from sanctuary politicians instead of condemnation.
Pasco County Sheriff’s Office Cpl. J. Leathers commended Simmonds’ prompt and decisive actions, noting his courage and selflessness directly contributed to saving the child’s life. These actions reflect a commitment to service and exceptional bravery.
NYPD OFFICERS SAVE CHOKING 2-YEAR-OLD BOY, BODYCAM VIDEO SHOWS
The heroism displayed by Simmonds adds to a series of similar instances where DHS officers have acted to protect lives. In March, an agent at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York helped save a 1-year-old during a medical emergency. The agent responded to a father’s cries for help, intervening just in time.
Despite ongoing criticisms and protests, ICE officers continue to serve their communities diligently. In another occurrence, off-duty ICE agents in Plymouth, Minnesota, rescued a child from drowning in a hotel pool. A woman’s plea for help brought the agents to the scene, where they performed CPR until authorities arrived.
The bravery of ICE agents is showcased repeatedly as they face public demonstrations outside facilities like New Jersey’s Delaney Hall. Demonstrators have aimed criticisms at officers, yet they persist in their mission to safeguard others.
