Comedian Larry David has voiced strong disapproval of President Donald Trump’s celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary, which featured a UFC fight at the White House. David shared his sentiments in an interview with Variety, expressing embarrassment over the event. “It was a travesty,” David said, referring to Trump’s sporting event. “What else can you say about it?”
The 78-year-old comedian admitted feeling unpatriotic due to the event. His comments came during the premiere of his new HBO series “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness.” The show, debuting on June 26, uses sketch comedy to satirize key moments in U.S. history and includes appearances by numerous celebrities such as Jerry Seinfeld, Vince Vaughn, and Barack Obama.
David praised Obama, whose company Higher Ground produced the series, noting the former president’s skill at improvisation. The UFC Freedom 250 event commemorated Trump’s 80th birthday and drew around 4,300 attendees, including 1,200 active service members. The Marine Band performed the national anthem alongside musician Zac Brown, with a concluding flyover by the Navy’s Blue Angels and Air Force Thunderbirds.
President Trump described the event as unprecedented in the world of sports when speaking to reporters. Fox News Digital sought comments from the White House regarding the celebration.
