Mack Hollins’ Unconventional Super Bowl Appearance

4 months ago 0

Mack Hollins, the New England Patriots wide receiver, is known for his preference to go barefoot whenever he’s off the football field. Thus, it didn’t come as a total shock when he turned up sans shoes in Santa Clara, California, only hours before the kickoff of Super Bowl LX. However, what truly caught attention was his eye-catching outfit.

The 32-year-old player made his way to the Patriots locker room sporting a striking facemask reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter’s, coupled with handcuffs around his wrists. To add to the drama, his feet were shackled, and he wore a red jumpsuit prominently featuring “Range 13” on the back.

During his walk through Levi’s Stadium tunnel, Hollins held the high school jersey of Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, who is on the verge of potentially becoming the first individual to win a Super Bowl both as a player and a head coach for the same franchise. As part of his warmup routine on the stadium turf, Hollins was clad in the No. 84 “Warriors” jersey, and notably, he remained barefoot.

The jersey’s significance might lie in its reference to the 1979 cult classic movie “The Warriors.” The New England Patriots successfully navigated the regular season without a single road loss and clinched the AFC Championship in Denver. Drawing inspiration from the film, the notion of triumphing away from home emerged as a motivational theme for the team this year.

Throughout the season, Mike Vrabel regularly played clips of the 1980s wrestling icons, the Road Warriors, for the Patriots. Once these clips were exhausted, he switched to scenes from “The Warriors” movie. Vrabel, who is 50, expressed his surprise that these videos resonated so well with the players. “It’s amazing what sticks. I didn’t think at the time that it would have stuck, but here we are at the end of January, and it’s still sticking,” he remarked.

Although the Patriots held the home team designation for this neutral-site game, they opted to don their white road jerseys for Super Bowl LX, maintaining their “road warriors” identity.

This isn’t the first time that Hollins’ choice of pregame attire has turned heads. Prior to a January 2025 playoff match between the Buffalo Bills and the Baltimore Ravens, Hollins, then playing for the Bills, arrived at the stadium in a summery outfit featuring sunglasses, a straw hat, swimming shorts, and a floral shirt, carrying a beach towel alongside a Bills mini-football.
