Myles Garrett Traded to Rams in Unexpected Move

The Cleveland Browns have made a surprising move by trading star edge-rusher Myles Garrett to the Los Angeles Rams. This comes after weeks of denying that Garrett was up for trade. The deal has shocked many, as it was not anticipated.

Initial reports suggested that Cleveland would receive 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, along with draft picks as compensation. The confirmed details now show the Rams acquiring Garrett, a player with a remarkable career, including seven Pro Bowl selections, five first-team All-Pro honors, and two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards.

In return, the Browns are getting Jared Verse, already a two-time Pro Bowler, plus a 2027 first-round pick, a 2028 second-round pick, and a 2029 third-round pick. These details were reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

When Jared Verse was suddenly in the deal, the picks got moved around a little bit, it got to a point where the two teams said, ‘You know what, this could actually happen,’ said Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

Since 2016, the Rams have picked in the first round only three times: quarterback Jared Goff in 2016, Jared Verse in 2024, and Ty Simpson, the 13th overall pick this year. Goff was traded to the Detroit Lions in 2020 for Matthew Stafford, while Verse is now with the Browns.

Rapoport mentioned, Myles Garrett expected to be a member of the Los Angeles Rams — the one and only team to pursue him. Persistence pays off for Les Snead, for Sean McVay and company.

Though Jared Verse has not yet reached Garrett’s level, he demonstrates significant potential. Last season, at 25 years old, he recorded 100 pressures, the second-highest among edge-rushers, following Will Anderson Jr. of the Houston Texans who had 102 pressures. Verse also excelled with 27 quarterback hits, ranked third in hurries with 64, and amassed 7.5 sacks, 11 tackles for loss, and a 16.1% pass-rush win-rate, according to Pro Football Focus.
