1 week ago 0

Neal McDonough recently discussed a challenging phase in his life and career. In an interview with Fox News Digital, the 60-year-old actor shared his experiences as part of the Jimmy Stewart biopic, “Jimmy.” During the conversation, McDonough recounted a difficult time when he thought his Hollywood career was over.

“I often wondered when the bar opened,” he said, reflecting on his mindset during that period. He was fired from a show for refusing to kiss a co-star, which led many to label him as overly religious due to his strong commitment to his wife. His stance had severe repercussions.

McDonough admitted he had been a drinker, but after being ostracized, alcohol became a significant issue. He lost his home, cars, and more. Despite the setbacks, McDonough is currently starring in “Jimmy,” honoring Jimmy Stewart on what would have been his 118th birthday.

The actor shared how friend Luke Perry showed generosity during this tough time by providing a place for McDonough’s family to stay after losing their home. Although “Justified” was gaining attention, McDonough felt he failed his family, particularly his wife Ruve and their five children, by losing their possessions.

After some self-reflection and support from his wife, he shifted focus to serving God rather than himself. Ruve, his wife of 25 years, played a crucial role in encouraging him to give up alcohol. “It’s us or the bottle,” she told him, spurring him to change his life.

McDonough expressed deep appreciation for his wife, describing her as his good luck charm who helped him through difficult times. The couple now works together as producing partners, creating projects like “Boon,” “The Warrant: Breaker’s Law,” “Homestead,” and “The Last Rodeo.” They met in 2000 during the filming of “Band of Brothers,” started dating in 2001, and married in December 2003. Now, they have five children together.

Reflecting on Stewart’s birthday, McDonough noted its increased significance because of his involvement in “Jimmy.” Through this project, McDonough and Ruve learned much about Stewart’s life and struggles, especially his experiences during World War II and his career achievements.

McDonough was moved by Stewart’s journey and felt fortunate to be part of the film, appreciating KJ Apa’s performance. “I’m one lucky and blessed guy to be involved,” he concluded.
