The search for Nancy Guthrie, mother of Savannah Guthrie, a host of the ‘Today’ show, has intensified as it extends into its fifth day. Her family is fervently appealing for her safe return after her presumed abduction from her Arizona residence.
According to authorities, it is believed that Nancy Guthrie was taken while asleep early Sunday morning from her home. Currently, there is no suspect or person of interest identified in this case, nor is it clear whether she was specifically targeted, according to Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos.
A press conference by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department to discuss the case is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Thursday.
Reports from the Pima County Sheriff’s Department indicate that the last sighting of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie occurred at her Catalina Foothills home, north of Tucson, on Saturday night. Concern arose when she did not attend church, prompting her family to report her missing around noon on Sunday.
In an emotional plea delivered via social media, Savannah Guthrie, alongside her siblings, fervently asked for the safe return of their mother. ‘Everyone is looking for you, Mommy, everywhere,’ she stated. ‘We will not rest. Your children will not rest until we are together again.’

Nancy Guthrie, described as having certain physical ailments and limited mobility, does not suffer from cognitive disorders, reports confirm. Sheriff Nanos emphasized her need for medication, noting that without it for 24 hours, the situation could turn fatal.
‘Our mom is our heart and our home,’ Savannah Guthrie asserted in her message. ‘She is 84 years old, her health, her heart is fragile. She lives in constant pain. She is without any medicine. She needs it to survive. She needs it not to suffer.’
Assistance from the FBI has been welcomed as they dispatch additional agents and specialists to Pima County, lending their support to local investigators, ABC News uncovered from sources on Wednesday.
The investigation includes examining potential ransom notes, with one such letter reportedly received by ABC’s Tucson affiliate KGUN, which passed it on to law enforcement. The validity of these correspondences is under scrutiny as part of the broader investigation.
Responding to these ransom note reports, Savannah Guthrie mentioned, ‘As a family, we are doing everything that we can. We are ready to talk. However, we live in a world where voices and images are easily manipulated. We need to know without a doubt that she is alive and that you have her. We want to hear from you and we are ready to listen. Please reach out to us.’
If anyone possesses information related to the whereabouts or condition of Nancy Guthrie, they are urged to contact emergency services at 911 or reach out directly to the Pima County Sheriff’s Department via 520-351-4900.
