Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons showcased their latest collection for Prada during Milan Fashion Week. They aimed to create menswear for everyday wear, not exclusively for fashion insiders.
The new Prada uniform for the upcoming spring and summer consists of slim, cropped jackets and five-pocket trousers. These pieces integrate with timeless blazers or leather jackets.
“Sometimes you just realize you need a good pasta pomodoro.” — Simons
The collection drew inspiration from jeans, although Prada mentioned she had never worn jeans before. Simons, on the other hand, recently started wearing them again after two decades of favoring wool trousers.
Despite this, five-pocket trousers paired with flat-pocket jackets emerged as the contemporary Prada look. These ensembles, both slim and cropped, stood out in the collection.
Many outfits featured luxurious, buttery leather in colors like antique white, gray, burgundy, or turquoise. These were set to rock guitar music on the runway. Nearly transparent white technical fabric was used for some designs, ideal for Europe’s current heatwave. Only a few closing pieces utilized actual denim.
Cropped shirts and knitwear vests with geometric patterns were included in the collection, complemented by contrasting silk scarves tied around the waist. Bags made from colorful pouches, sometimes attached to thick belts, added vibrancy. Pointed shoes with multiple Velcro straps completed the looks.
Fashion Inspired by the Streets
Prada expressed a desire to create versatile pieces and to avoid “useless design.” Simons emphasized the importance of aligning fashion with real-life dressing, noting historical strong fashion ideas often originate from the streets.
“It’s a clear silhouette, vertical, simple, sharp, proud.” — Simons
The collection was described as hopeful and pure, featuring a lot of white. It aims to shift perceptions of luxury fashion.
In keeping with the theme of simplicity, the presentation occurred in a minimalist showroom with transparent seating. Everyone had a front-row view, including VIP guests such as NBA star Anthony Edwards, singer and actor Troye Sivan, K-pop group ENHYPEN, and actor Louis Partridge.
Fans braved the early summer heatwave to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities.
