President Trump Advocates for Broader Participation in Abraham Accords

2 weeks ago 0

President Donald Trump is pressing Muslim-majority nations to join the Abraham Accords as part of their involvement in a developing agreement with Iran. These accords aim to normalize diplomatic relations between Israel and several Arab and Muslim-majority nations.

Pushing for Normalization

In a statement made Saturday, Trump emphasized that countries including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, Pakistan, Turkey, and Jordan should normalize ties with Israel. This demand followed a phone call he had with regional leaders. Trump expressed that, given the extensive efforts by the United States, joining the Abraham Accords should be mandatory for these countries.

Further Discussions Planned

Trump also indicated plans to engage with leaders from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain. These two nations were the first to sign the accords in 2020.

Iran’s Potential Participation

Trump proposed the idea that Iran might eventually join the Abraham Accords. In conversations with several prominent leaders, there was mention of the possibility of including the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Current Developments

According to U.S. and Israeli officials, the UAE is unlikely to take further steps on this matter before Israel’s elections in September.
