Prince Harry’s Shift in Views from America to Britain and Criticism of Trump’s Policies

3 days ago 0

Prince Harry once praised America, portraying it as a refuge after leaving the British monarchy. Since Donald Trump’s re-election, Harry has critiqued Trump’s administration while rekindling ties with Britain. This shift raises questions about his long-term intentions.

A Change in Harry’s Residency and Perspective

In April 2024, Harry changed his official residence from Britain to America. Former speculation about U.S. citizenship has faded. By 2025, Harry declared no plans to become legally American. Concerns about U.S. foreign policy, particularly Trump’s approach to Ukraine, have emerged in his limited comments about America.

Harry argued that America should support Ukraine in repelling Russia. He mentioned America’s role in assuring Ukraine’s sovereignty when nuclear weapons were surrendered, suggesting it’s a duty, not charity.

Prior Praise for America

Before Trump’s return, Harry spoke positively of the U.S. In a 2022 interview, he expressed feeling welcomed and having a strong community in Santa Barbara. In 2024, he shared his enjoyment of life in the U.S. His book, “Spare,” published in early 2023, reflected his fondness for America’s directness and openness.

Despite praising America’s lifestyle, Harry critiqued Trump’s actions. During the 2020 presidential race, he emphasized rejecting hate speech and misinformation, perceived to oppose Trump. Comments with Meghan supported change, aligning with a less favorable view of Trump.

A New Tone Since Trump’s Victory

Following Trump’s 2024 win, Harry’s tone shifted. In April 2026 at the Kyiv Security Forum, Harry underlined America’s obligation to Ukraine, criticizing Trump’s foreign policy indirectly. He stressed the importance of respecting and supporting Ukraine.

Appearing on late-night television, Harry humorously referenced American royalty obsession, hinting at Trump’s perceived authoritarianism. Earlier remarks critiqued Trump’s environmental policies, claiming they caused harm, reflecting Harry’s political engagement in America through satire and critique rather than traditional support.

Growing Appreciation for Britain

Simultaneously, Harry expressed renewed affection for Britain. In a November 2025 essay, he described Britain as cherished despite living in the U.S. Harry detailed the fond aspects of British identity, like camaraderie and shared spaces.

His use of the word “currently” attracted media attention, triggering speculation about spending more time in Britain. Safety concerns regarding police protection for his family remain a barrier. Harry’s summer visit to promote the 2027 Invictus Games will offer further insight into his evolving relationship with the U.S. and Britain.
