Katherine Hanbury, a friend from Princess Diana’s school days, is sharing letters and photographs of the late icon. The items will be auctioned starting July 7. Hanbury explained to Fox News Digital how Diana had been hopeful about her future with then-Prince Charles. “She thought she’d met her prince,” Hanbury said. Diana’s aspirations were much like anyone else’s, seeking love and family.
Honeymoon Letters
During her honeymoon in 1981, Diana wrote to Hanbury expressing joy in her new marriage. “Its wonderful being married,” she said, reflecting youthful optimism. Hanbury chose to auction these personal items to give others the opportunity to appreciate them.
School Memories
Diana, known as Lady Diana Spencer at West Heath Girls’ School, enjoyed “everyday girl things,” said Hanbury. From organizing rooms to sports like swimming and tennis, Diana’s enjoyment of simple pleasures showed her caring and vibrant nature.
Early Connection with Charles
Diana’s excitement was evident when Prince Charles visited Althorp, Hanbury recounted. Charles’ connection to Diana’s family eventually led to the couple’s publicized romance and marriage in 1981.
Public Attention and Later Life
Diana’s royal life was not what she had imagined as her marriage faced challenges. After years of scrutiny, the couple’s separation came in 1992, leading to a finalized divorce in 1996. Tragically, Diana passed away on August 31, 1997, after a car crash in Paris.
