Robert Irwin, the Australian wildlife advocate and television personality, recently opened up about his experiences in Los Angeles while participating in the dance competition show, “Dancing with the Stars.” Despite his successful stint on the show, which culminated in a win on Season 34, Irwin expressed a strong sense of relief upon returning to his homeland.
In an interview with Fox News Digital during the NFL Honors event, Irwin recounted his trepidation about driving in Los Angeles, describing it as more daunting than handling wildlife. “Learning to drive in America was quite the experience. It was my first time driving on that side of the road, and doing so in L.A. was downright terrifying,” Irwin confessed.

Despite his challenges navigating L.A. roads, Irwin acknowledged the warmth and support he received from fans across the United States during his time on the show. “The support from America was amazing, but my heart remains in Australia,” he said. Growing up exploring the Australian wilderness, Irwin found the urban lifestyle of Los Angeles vastly different but appreciated the unique opportunities it presented.
Reflecting on his time in the U.S., Irwin mentioned his excitement about returning home but also appreciated the bonds formed with fellow “Dancing with the Stars” participants. “Returning to Australia was wonderful, but coming back to America from time to time to reconnect with my ‘Dancing with the Stars’ friends holds its charm,” he added.
In January, Irwin shared with The West Australian that he is not accustomed to city life, emphasizing his affinity for the Australian bush and countryside. Raised alongside his sister Bindi and mother Terri, Robert grew up in the scenic environments of Australia. The Irwins have continued the legacy of his father, Steve Irwin, a beloved wildlife expert who passed away in 2006 due to a stingray incident.
The family remains dedicated to wildlife conservation through their work at the Australia Zoo. Recently, Robert Irwin journeyed back to the United States to attend the Super Bowl, where he indulged in a personal dream of witnessing the event firsthand. He humorously noted that bringing a snake as his companion to the event seemed only fitting.
