The body of musical artist Oliver Tree arrived back in California last weekend. This was after he was identified as a passenger on a helicopter involved in a tragic crash over Rio de Janeiro one week earlier. His social media platforms confirmed his return following the fatal June 14 collision of two helicopters, resulting in the loss of all six passengers.
An announcement on his account stated, ‘Oliver is now back in California where he can finally rest.’
The Associated Press reported that authorities are investigating potential human error by the pilot or air traffic control as possible causes of the crash. The victims alongside Tree included Gaspar Prim Díaz, a well-known Argentine YouTuber known as Gaspi, Lucas Vignale, another Argentine, and Brazilians Lucas Brito, Charles Marsillac, and Alexandre Souza.
Oliver Tree, age 32, was in South America for a world tour and had a show set for June 6 in São Paulo. The collision occurred in the Recreio dos Bandeirantes neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro on June 15.
On social media, Tree’s team expressed gratitude for the support shown by fans and followers, stating, ‘The constant love, support, and positivity is helping the family, friends, and collaborators make it through these extremely difficult times.’
Known formally as Oliver Tree Nickell, the artist hailed from Santa Cruz. His father, Jesse Nickell, was notified of his son’s demise by a producer collaborating with Tree in Brazil.
Tree was widely recognized for his vibrant fashion choices, unique mullet haircut, thin mustache, and encouraging perspective on life. His Instagram motto encouraged embracing individual differences. Tree collaborated with famous names in pop and electronic dance music. His notable hits include ‘Life Goes On,’ which reached number 71 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2022, and ‘Miss You,’ a collaboration with Robin Schulz, peaking at 84 the same year.
The influence of Tree extended beyond music charts. Following the crash, numerous tributes flooded in from around the globe after his involvement in the accident became public. On social media, it was revealed that Tree had been working on an endowment aimed to generate a grant, which his team promised to continue. The anticipated ‘Dr. Oliver Tree’s Extremely Epic Grant For Baby Geniuses’ is set to launch soon.
In a past interview on the ‘Zack Sang Show’ on YouTube, Tree talked about the grant and contemplated the posthumous recognition of his work, stating, ‘That’s when people appreciate you, when you’re not there anymore.’
The Instagram message concluded with an assurance, ‘Your legacy will live on forever.’
