St. Charles Fine Art Show Draws Art Enthusiasts Despite Cloudy Skies

1 week ago 0

Saturday morning’s overcast weather did not deter Debbie Kusek from visiting the St. Charles Fine Art Show in downtown St. Charles. “It’s always sunny in the world of art. Viewing original artwork is wonderful and inspiring,” Kusek remarked while admiring oil paintings at the weekend event. She appreciated the opportunity to see diverse techniques and ideas.

The St. Charles Business Alliance, supported by sponsors, hosted the 28th annual show along Riverside Avenue, featuring over 110 juried artists. The artists showcased a range of mediums such as ceramics, digital art, wood, sculpture, jewelry, glass, oil and watercolors, photography, and more. According to Jenna Sawicki, executive director of the St. Charles Business Alliance, artists were selected from more than 150 applicants. “Over 50% are returning artists, but we also included new participants to keep things fresh,” Sawicki explained. “People like to revisit their favorite artists while discovering something new.”

Sawicki noted a growing interest in mixed media and digital art, reflecting current trends, though traditional forms like clay, ceramics, and watercolors also featured prominently. Participants came from various locations, including Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, and Canada, enhancing the event’s diversity.

The art show attracted about 10,000 visitors throughout the weekend, benefiting both the city and local businesses. “Our mission is to drive people to our businesses,” Sawicki said. “We organize the event, and brick-and-mortar stores offer specials.” She emphasized the importance of appreciating art and supporting the creative process during challenging times.

John Carman, an artist now residing in Free Soil, Michigan, shared his positive experience participating in the show. “I’ve been here before, and it’s one of my favorites,” Carman said. “The layout with the main street and offshoots is fantastic. I’ve attended shows with thousands of artists, and it’s overwhelming.”

Local resident Evan Bierman attended the event with his daughter, Sophie. He found the art show an excellent opportunity to find pieces for his daughters’ rooms and his living room. “We want art to display, and there are many great mediums,” Bierman stated. “We’re looking for vibrant, colorful art for the kids.”
