Supreme Court Rejects Carter Page’s Lawsuit Revival

2 hours ago 0

The Supreme Court declined to revive Carter Page’s lawsuit against former FBI officials on Monday. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson recused herself from the decision, affecting its outcome. This development concludes Page’s efforts to hold individual FBI leaders accountable for surveillance errors linked to the Russia investigation.

The decision leaves Page with no further legal options and ends the case against officials such as James Comey. It also confirms a lower court ruling that Page’s claims were filed past the allowable time limit.

The justices issued a brief, unsigned order dismissing Page’s appeal, maintaining a federal appeals court decision. This decision relied on a three-year statute of limitations that blocked his claims. Page contended the timeframe should start in 2019, when a Justice Department inspector general exposed significant flaws in the FBI’s surveillance process. However, Page filed his lawsuit in 2020, which was deemed untimely by the courts.

Justice Jackson’s recusal was noted without explanation, as is customary for such instances.
