Three teenagers were injured on Monday night during a large gathering at 57th Street Beach in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. The Chicago police reported that an 18-year-old and two 19-year-old men were present outside at a gathering around 10 p.m. on East 55th Street when gunshots were heard, and they experienced gunshot wounds.
An 18-year-old sustained a hand injury and received medical attention at UChicago Medicine, where he was listed in good condition. Another victim, a 19-year-old, suffered a leg wound and was also taken to the same hospital, where he was reported in good condition. The third victim incurred a gunshot wound to the right hip and sought help at UChicago Medicine, where he was also listed in good condition.
Officials noted that they could not confirm if the event was a teen takeover, describing it instead as a large gathering. Police said that as of now, no suspects are in custody. Detectives are actively investigating the shooting incident.
