Tiger Woods has broken his two-month silence with a patriotic message honoring those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. He shared his Memorial Day thoughts on X, also mentioning his late father, Earl Woods, who served with distinction in the U.S. Army Special Forces during the Vietnam War.
Woods expressed gratitude towards his father and others who served the nation, stating, “My father was a Special Forces operator with two tours in Vietnam and 20 years of service. To all those like my father, we all say thank you for your sacrifices. Without them we wouldn’t have the greatest country on Earth.” Woods’ father passed away in 2006 at the age of 74.
Before this statement, Woods had not communicated with the public since March 31. He had announced a hiatus to undergo treatment following a car accident and subsequent DUI arrest in Florida on March 27. The incident led to two misdemeanor charges: DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a test. Although Woods passed breathalyzer tests with zero results, his refusal to take a urine test added to his charges.
Woods obtained permission to leave the country for “comprehensive inpatient treatment” starting April 1. He was seen in Florida earlier in May but his private jet has reportedly returned to Switzerland, suggesting his rehabilitation continues.
While Woods returned to Palm Beach International Airport on May 13, his quick trip to Florida amidst the ongoing treatment remains unclear. This coincided with his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump, revealing her struggle with breast cancer. Vanessa called Woods her “strength” in a heartfelt social media post. Woods confirmed their relationship in March 2025.
The 15-time major champion has not participated in competitive golf since the 2024 Open Championship in Scotland.
