The Trump Phone has finally arrived after months of delays, but many customers are unhappy due to concerns about manufacturing locations, design, and features.
Putting America First
In June 2025, when Trump Mobile announced the T1 Phone, it was marketed as an affordable smartphone aligned with “America First” ideals. The phone was to be gold-colored with the American flag and priced at $499, making it cheaper than Apple iPhone models ranging from $800 to $1,200. The T1 Phone aimed to present an ‘all-American’ alternative to brands like Apple and Samsung, known for manufacturing outside the U.S. Early statements emphasized the phone’s design and construction in the U.S.
Hundreds of thousands paid a $100 deposit to pre-order, expecting an August/September 2025 release. However, delays soon became evident.
‘Shaped By American Innovation’
The T1 Phone’s launch suffered repeated delays, partly attributed to the 43-day federal shutdown. Furthermore, the phone’s description shifted from “Made in America” to “shaped by American innovation.” Eric Trump mentioned plans for U.S.-only manufacturing in the future, marking a departure from initial “American-made” claims.
Adjustments to preorder terms introduced new uncertainties. The website stated there were no guarantees for release dates, regulatory approvals, or delivery timelines.
‘The T1 Phone Has Arrived’
Trump Mobile announced the shipment of T1 phones via social media, stating, “The T1 Phone has arrived!” Customers were informed that shipping would start soon. However, a video accompanying the announcement faced scrutiny due to inconsistencies, such as incorrect flag stripes.
The American Flag Error
An alarming issue involved the American flag’s depiction on the Trump Phone, which showed 11 stripes instead of 13. Each stripe represents an original colony that declared independence in 1776. This issue contradicts the phone’s patriotic branding.
Hardware Concerns
The Trump Phone is allegedly a repurposed Android device with only a gold casing and Trump branding. Resemblance to models like the HTC U24 Pro and REVVL 7 Pro 5G suggests it might be an off-the-shelf phone with new packaging. The phone carries a Snapdragon 7 chip and standard cameras, which are mid-range and not justified by the $499 price. This hardware choice indicates manufacturing in China or Taiwan.
Software Concerns
Preinstalled with Truth Social, Trump’s social media platform, the phone feels politically themed and raises privacy concerns. While supporters may welcome this addition, it suggests that the focus is more on identity than technology.
These problems have led to widespread criticism online. Commentators like Sheel Mohnot and Edward Krassenstein have alluded to the phone’s foreign manufacturing and criticized it as a rebranded device. Twitter user Molly Ploofkins also mocked the flag error, pointing out the historical inaccuracy.
