An event called “The Great American State Fair” celebrating America’s 250th anniversary faced setbacks as several musical performers withdrew due to connections with President Donald Trump. Now, Trump himself will lead the celebration, organizers announced.
Trump commented on his social media platform, Truth Social, about the artists’ withdrawal, suggesting that he might step in as a key figure, declaring himself “the man who some say is the Greatest President in History (THE GOAT!), DONALD J. TRUMP.” He criticized the artists and hinted at hosting a “giant MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN RALLY” instead.
Freedom 250, the group organizing the fair on Washington’s National Mall, confirmed Trump will kick off the event on June 24. However, his social media post did not specify an exact date beyond “Wednesday.” The White House has not cleared up the difference in dates.
Danielle Alvarez, a Freedom 250 spokesperson, highlighted the broader festivities slated from June 25 to July 10, featuring exhibitions, family-friendly attractions, musical acts, and more.
Freedom 250, while claiming to be nonpartisan, was established by Trump and is headed by a former State Department official from his administration. Acts such as Bret Michaels, the Commodores, and Martina McBride dropped out, citing misleading information about the event’s theme or avoiding political involvement. McBride noted on Instagram that she accepted what was described as a nonpartisan event.
Among the performers still slated to appear are Flo Rida, Fab Morvan of Milli Vanilli, and Vanilla Ice, whose representative expressed pride in celebrating America’s 250th anniversary.
