Ukraine Refutes Drone Strike Claims on Zaporizhzhia Plant

Ukraine denied Russia’s assertion that a Ukrainian drone hit the Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant. Despite Moscow’s claims, Kyiv insists its military did not target the facility. Ukraine described Russia’s statement as another attempt at propaganda.

The Zaporizhzhia plant, Europe’s largest, remains at the center of disputes as both nations accuse each other of risking nuclear safety. The plant, seized by Russian forces early in the war, is located near active battlefronts in Zaporizhzhia, a region annexed by Russia without international acknowledgment.

Russia’s Rosatom alleged a drone attack damaged a turbine hall. However, Ukraine argues its operations comply with international humanitarian law.

Ukraine Steps Up Attacks on Russian Energy Infrastructure

In recent months, Ukraine has increased strikes on Russian oil and gas facilities. The Ukrainian military claimed responsibility for attacks on various sites, including the Saratov oil refinery, which led to significant fires. This refinery supplies fuel to Russia’s war efforts.

Local Russian authorities confirmed damage to civilian infrastructure, with independent reports highlighting fires at energy facilities in Saratov.

Additional Ukrainian drone strikes targeted a fuel depot in Rostov and a pumping station in Kirov. Both locations facilitated Russian energy operations.

International Concerns and Military Operations

Rafael Grossi, head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, expressed serious concern about the alleged nuclear plant incident. Continuous risk at Zaporizhzhia demands monitoring, with the IAEA deployed on-site.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s air force reported it shot down 212 out of 299 Russian drones launched overnight. However, drone debris impacted several Ukrainian locations, prompting emergency responses.

Fires erupted in Dnipro and at a refinery in Rivne due to strikes, but local authorities reported no injuries. Emergency services contained the situation promptly.
