Urgent Search Underway for Suspect in Violent Crime Spree

1 hour ago 0

Authorities are engaged in an intense search for a 22-year-old suspect accused of a violent crime spree across state lines. The incidents involved a series of highway shootings near the venue of FIFA World Cup matches at Arrowhead Stadium and a tense standoff with law enforcement.

The FBI’s Kansas City field office offers a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Oscar Sanchez-Munoz. He is a White and Hispanic male, weighing approximately 184 pounds, standing 5 feet 8 inches tall, with brown hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on his right forearm.

Officials urge the public to consider Sanchez-Munoz “armed and dangerous.” The multi-agency pursuit follows violent events in both Kansas and Missouri. A state warrant was issued for his arrest after he allegedly fired at a vehicle on June 11 in Wyandotte County, Kansas. This charge is coupled with an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault in the same county, with a bond set at $100,000.

The Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) identifies Sanchez-Munoz as the prime suspect in five shootings along Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri. These incidents occurred just miles from Arrowhead Stadium during FIFA World Cup events.

One victim died, another sustained serious injuries, and several others were wounded in the attacks. Among the injured was an Uber driver who was shot while transporting fans to a match between Argentina and Algeria. The injured parties are expected to recover.

The shootings led to a dramatic overnight standoff in Independence, Missouri. This confrontation ended when the house in question caught fire. After extinguishing the flames, K-9 units and Missouri State Fire Marshals thoroughly searched the property without locating Sanchez-Munoz. However, authorities did recover the vehicle believed to be involved in the shootings.

As of Saturday, no potential motives have been disclosed. The FBI and KCPD appeal to the public to remain aware and contact 911 immediately if Sanchez-Munoz is spotted. Information can also be submitted via kccrimestoppers.com or by contacting the local FBI office.
