Vanilla Ice is set to perform at the Great American State Fair’s Freedom 250 concerts. Despite other artists dropping out, the 58-year-old rapper expressed his excitement and honor in a video posted on Instagram. He promised to bring back the 90s vibes to the event.
In his message, Vanilla Ice talked about celebrating 250 years of America’s history, from George Washington onwards. He described the event as magical, emphasizing that the concert will be a fun and non-political celebration. He invited everyone to join in the festivities, stating that music transcends politics.
“We don’t take anything too seriously, and we’re gonna bring the ‘90s, that’s how it works.” – Vanilla Ice
He reassured his followers that his participation was not politically motivated. Responding to critics, he reiterated that music and entertainment have no political boundaries and that he aims to unite people through positivity and love.
The Great American State Fair is a major national celebration planned to take place on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. from June 25 through July 10, 2026. This event marks the 250th anniversary of America (America 250). Freedom 250, the group behind the event, initially announced several artists, some of whom have since withdrawn.
Among the artists who withdrew are Bret Michaels, Young MC, Morris Day and the Time, and C+C Music Factory. Country singer Martina McBride also opted out, expressing disappointment over what she felt was a misleading presentation of the event.
In a statement, McBride shared that she believed the event was nonpartisan, but events unfolded contrary to her expectations. She emphasized the importance of her music representing real people and issues, and felt that her participation might contradict this belief.
“It greatly upsets me that any fan who has been moved by my music may now feel like I’m abandoning the meaning behind those songs.” – Martina McBride
McBride’s decision resulted in backlash on social media, with some users criticizing her for backing out. Despite the criticism, she stood by her decision, valuing the integrity of her music and message.
