White Sox’s Munetaka Murakami Exits Game Due to Injury

7 days ago 0

Chicago White Sox star player Munetaka Murakami left the game against the Detroit Tigers in the third inning due to tightness in his right hamstring. The team has announced that Murakami is undergoing further evaluation to determine the severity of the injury.

The incident occurred during the third inning at Rate Field. Murakami sustained the injury while running to first base on a fielder’s choice. With one runner on first and one out, Murakami hit a ground ball to second baseman Zach McKinstry. The Tigers managed a force at second, but Murakami reached first base safely, preventing a double play. However, he soon needed assistance from the training staff and was subsequently taken out of the game.

Prior to Friday’s game, Murakami was tied with Yordan Alvarez of the Houston Astros for leading the American League in home runs, with each having 20 homers. He also shared the top position in the AL for runs batted in (RBIs) with Jonathan Aranda from the Tampa Bay Rays, each recording 41 RBIs. Murakami joined the White Sox this offseason on a two-year contract, following a successful eight-year stint with the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. Notably, he is the only rookie in major league history to achieve 20 home runs before June.
