Zach Top Shares Views on Country Music and Career Highlights

Zach Top recently shared his thoughts on modern country music, noting how it has become “perfect” but lost some of its “soul.” In a Rolling Stone interview, the 28-year-old musician discussed his latest song, “Good Girls & Cowgirls,” and the rise in popularity of bluegrass music. He attributes this trend to a desire for more “raw and real” music.

Top explained that for a long time within the country genre, everything seemed “perfect” and polished. This, he says, led to some of the music’s soul being left behind. In his view, bluegrass offers a raw and genuine sound, as there’s “nothing covering you up.” He mentioned artists like Tyler Childers and Zach Bryan as examples of those embracing this authentic style.

When performing bluegrass, Top remarked, “you better be exceptional on your instrument and as a singer.” He sees bluegrass as an embodiment of playing heartfelt music without chasing perfection.

Zach Top, known for traditional honky-tonk tunes, has played a significant role in the resurgence of traditional country music. He released his first EP in 2022 and debuted at the Grand Ole Opry the same year. His breakthrough came in 2024 with the album “Cold Beer & Country Music.”

In 2025, Top released his second album, “Ain’t In It for My Health,” and won both ACM New Male Artist of the Year and CMA New Artist of the Year. Celebrating backstage at the CMAs, he joked about his plans, saying he would find a place to enjoy drinks with his road crew and band.

His latest song, “Good Girls & Cowgirls,” is set to officially release on Aug. 21, along with “Other Side of Hurtin’.” Despite having new songs ready, he hasn’t confirmed a release date for his third album but hopes for an April release. Describing “Good Girls & Cowgirls,” he called it a “fun song” depicting the contrast between a “good girl” and a wilder woman.

Zach Top continues to build his career in country music, offering a fresh take on a traditional genre. His approach promises future success by catering to the audience’s desire for heartfelt performances.
