Sherrod Brown Leads Jon Husted in Ohio Senate Race Poll

Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown is leading Republican incumbent Jon Husted by 8 points in the Ohio Senate race, according to a Fox News poll released on Wednesday. Brown, a three-term senator, is aiming to return to Washington after losing to Republican Bernie Moreno in 2024. Husted has been serving in the Senate since January 2025, following JD Vance’s swearing-in as vice president.

The poll indicates Brown has garnered 53 percent of the vote, while Husted stands at 45 percent among Ohio’s registered voters. Both campaigns have been contacted for comments but have yet to respond.

Details of the Candidates

Brown and Husted recently secured their party nominations in Ohio’s primary elections. Husted’s favorability is at 41 percent, with an unfavorable rating of 50 percent. In contrast, Brown enjoys a 53 percent favorability and a 44 percent unfavorable rating.

Former President Donald Trump’s favorability in this poll is 42 percent compared to a 57 percent unfavorable score. Notably, his favorability has decreased by over 20 percent since November 2024.

Poll Methodology

The Fox News poll surveyed 1,015 registered Ohio voters from May 28 to June 1, with a margin of error of 3 percent. Within their respective parties, Brown has 98 percent support from Democrats, while Husted has 86 percent from Republicans. Brown receives backing from 13 percent of Republicans, whereas only 2 percent of Democrats support Husted.

The Cook Political Report has labeled the Ohio Senate race a “toss-up,” alongside contests in Maine and Michigan.

Social Media Exchanges

Brown and Husted have exchanged criticisms on social media platforms. Team Husted accused Brown of failing to showcase any accomplishments from his political career, suggesting his campaign relies on deceptive advertisements. Brown countered, blaming Husted for rising gas prices, health care premiums, and grocery costs, asserting Husted ignores affordability issues in Ohio.

Other Polls

A prior Bowling Green State University/YouGov poll, conducted before the primary, showed Husted with 50 percent compared to Brown’s 47 percent, with 3 percent supporting another candidate. This survey included 1,000 Ohio voters from April 7 to April 14 with a margin of error of 3.88 percent.

Another survey by NetChoice, conducted by Echelon Insights, placed Husted at 51 percent versus Brown’s 45 percent. This poll surveyed 413 Ohio voters between April 3 and April 9, carrying a margin of error of 5.8 percent.
