President Donald Trump recently signed a significant piece of legislation introduced by Senator Josh Hawley, aimed at boosting efforts against child exploitation. This new law will increase federal resources by funding 200 additional child exploitation investigators. Previously, the Department of Homeland Security had only seven forensic analysts nationwide dedicated to such cases.
In a statement to Fox News Digital, Senator Hawley expressed his gratitude towards the President for addressing this crucial issue. He stated, “This is the largest surge against child trafficking ever by the federal government. Time is of the essence. Let’s rescue these children.”
The measure is part of a broader $70 billion reconciliation package, which allocates $38 billion to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and $26 billion to the Border Patrol. Specifically, $108.5 million is designated for child trafficking and exploitation enforcement, marking the largest federal investment in this area to date.
President Trump expressed that the bill provides crucial funding to domestic law enforcement efforts, aiming to combat child exploitation and protect America’s youth.
Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow played a role in driving this provision. He testified on March 3 during Hawley’s Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism, highlighting the prevalence of child trafficking. Tebow revealed that 338,000 unique IP addresses had downloaded or distributed child rape images in the U.S. over several months, with only a small fraction being investigated.
The new measure allows Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) to hire 40 new forensic analysts and 30 new child exploitation investigators for the Victim Identification Laboratory at the Child Exploitation Investigations Unit. Additionally, it funds the hiring of 130 more forensic analysts and investigators and initiates a dedicated training program to enhance collaboration among federal, state, and local law enforcement.
