The Northeast will experience hot and humid conditions on Thursday and Friday. This shift in weather brings the potential for severe storms.
Recent heat in the central United States is moving towards the East Coast. This transition threatens to change an otherwise mild week into an uncomfortable one. Bryan Ramsey, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in New York, described the upcoming days as ‘sweltering.’ Although temperatures won’t reach 100 degrees, the combination of heat and humidity will make it feel ‘sultry.’
A warm front will bring a dense air mass, keeping conditions sticky and damp. This prevents the body from cooling down easily. The second week of June often marks the start of true warm weather. However, this year’s setup echoes an unusual 90-degree stretch experienced in mid-April, but now with added tropical moisture. This increases the discomfort significantly.
High temperatures across much of the East Coast are expected to hover between 90 and 95 degrees.
Potential storms may interrupt the heat. Bob Oravec, a senior forecaster at the federal Weather Prediction Center, noted that some temperatures approach record levels. Though not extremely hot, the current conditions warrant caution.
