Cruise Ship Passenger Faces Extended Quarantine Despite Recommendations

3 hours ago 0

On June 15, 2026, it was reported that Angela Perryman, a 47-year-old cruise ship passenger, remains confined at a quarantine facility in Nebraska. She was exposed to hantavirus in early May and is being held against her wishes, despite testing negative for the virus and showing no symptoms.

The Davis Global Center at the University of Nebraska Medical Center campus hosts the National Quarantine Unit. While others from the facility were allowed to return home for monitoring by health officials, Perryman continues to stay under quarantine.

Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., known for advocating medical freedom, signed an order on Monday to maintain Perryman’s quarantine. This decision came despite the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s recommendations for her release.

“In my professional judgment, this less restrictive alternative is adequate to protect public health,”

Dr. Michael Bell, CDC’s quarantine medical reviewer, suggested on Thursday that Perryman should spend the rest of her 42-day quarantine at home under remote symptom monitoring and have access to a 24-hour health hotline.

During a telephone interview, Perryman shared her frustration, stating she learned of Kennedy’s decision when his order was slipped under her door. She expressed anger over the continuous confinement despite the medical review favoring her release.
