Late-Night Hosts Criticize Trump’s Costly Pool Makeover

On Tuesday night, both Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon targeted President Donald Trump during their late-night shows. The mockery followed complications from a $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool. The project aimed to give the historic site an ‘American flag blue’ color, but algal blooms have instead turned the water green.

National Park Service employees and contractors employed hydrogen peroxide to address the issue on Tuesday. This effort is a part of Trump’s broader Washington beautification initiative leading up to the nation’s 250th anniversary.

Kimmel and Fallon’s Satirical Jabs

On ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’, Kimmel highlighted the irony, noting that the pool now resembles a “Mexican flag green.” He aired footage and explained, “Trump reportedly spent $14 million updating the reflecting pool on the National Mall. He wanted it to be American flag blue, and not a week later, it’s completely green.”

Meanwhile, on ‘The Tonight Show’, Fallon also commented on the situation, opening with, “President Trump just finished his $14 million project on the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool,” before receiving boos from the audience.

Fallon continued, “He was trying for an American flag blue effect, but due to algae growth, it’s now a bright green.” He humorously compared the outcome to film characters, noting, “Trump was going for Avatar and ended up with Shrek.”
