Tom Holland Discusses Successor for Spider-Man Role

1 hour ago 0

Fans are expressing their opinions after Tom Holland revealed his choice for the next Spider-Man. Holland, who will reprise his role in the upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day, shared his thoughts with Esquire on who should take over the iconic role.

Holland mentioned, “In the same way that Robert Downey was a mentor for me in my first three movies, I would love to fill that role for whoever takes on the mantle next.” Downey, who starred as Iron Man, served as a mentor to Holland within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

When asked about his choice for a successor, Holland, 30, named Owen Cooper as a potential candidate. Holland commented, “Owen Cooper would be awesome.” He praised Cooper, 16, for his significant talent and noted his prominence in the entertainment industry following his acclaimed performance in Netflix’s Adolescence.

Cooper received numerous accolades, including Best Supporting Actor at the Critics Choice Awards, Golden Globes, British Academy Television Awards, and Emmys for his performance in a limited series.

Fans have taken to social media to weigh in on Holland’s selection. One commented, “Owen Cooper was phenomenal in Adolescence. He absolutely has the acting chops for Peter Parker.”

Another fan expressed, “If Marvel actually chooses him, the casting would be outstanding.”

Some fans appreciated Holland’s forward-thinking, with one stating, “Tom Holland already thinking about the future—classy move. Owen Cooper is a big name right now, and Holland’s endorsement is significant. Passing the torch with grace.”

However, not every fan is prepared for Holland to exit the role, which he has played since Captain America: Civil War in 2016. One fan posted, “Tom Holland out here doing great work by naming Owen Cooper as the next Spider-Man? I understand but I’m not ready to part with Tom’s Peter Parker.”

Earlier this month, Holland spoke to Empire about his aspirations for the franchise’s future. He expressed enthusiasm for passing on the role, saying, “For whoever’s next, whether that is a Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, or Spider-Woman, I would love to help set up the next chapter.”

Holland added, “I don’t know exactly what that looks like. But if I could fulfill a mentoring role as Downey did for me, I’d be satisfied swinging into the sunset.”

Spider-Man: Brand New Day premieres on July 31.
