Vice President JD Vance revealed insights into former President Donald Trump’s expectations for Cabinet members’ attire during an appearance on the “Hang Out with Sean Hannity” podcast. Vance described Trump’s preference for traditional dress as a way to show respect for public institutions.
The president believes respecting the office includes dressing appropriately, Vance shared in the podcast episode released on Thursday.
Emphasizing professionalism, Vance contrasted Trump’s style with that of many modern politicians. Trump’s typical attire includes a navy suit, black shoes, and a solid tie. Vance noted Trump often comments on attire, even joking with Cabinet members about wearing brown shoes.
Earlier in the year, Trump mentioned buying shoes for officials facing wardrobe issues during a talk on “The Brian Kilmeade Show.”
Vance recalled an incident involving Ukrainian President Zelenskyy, who chose not to wear a suit during an Oval Office meeting. During a later meeting, Zelenskyy opted for formal attire, earning compliments, including one from Trump.
Vance also recounted a comment from Trump directed at his son Don Jr. during a 9/11 memorial. The president noted Don Jr.’s choice of a spread collar, subtly suggesting a preference for more traditional styles.
Through these interactions, Trump highlighted the importance of maintaining a professional image, reinforcing his traditional dress code expectations.
